Power Cables are far more interesting than you ever imagined! Most of us have just seen these cables as a basic requirement that we don't even care about since their beginnings in 1882. But there are a lot more things to add to these strings of wonder than meets the eye! Thomas Edison produced the first 'wire' in 1882 which wasn't even a wire; instead, it was a collection of copper tubes wrapped in jute! The wire was filled with asphalt, which provided insulation, due to its porous properties because rubber insulation was not employed until 1897, and only in the power plants like Niagara Falls.
